You will have read about the many virus’s around in 2023 that restrict breathing and create fatigue and debilitation in ‘day to day’ living. What is less discussed is how bad posture and skeletal dysfunctions (Plantarflexed Posture), exacerbate the breathlessness that comes with the body ‘managing’ the virus.
Post COVID there is a condition known as SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) – which is a direct outcome of COVID-19 and the ongoing “Long COVID” diagnosis, debilitating both adults and children alike. This viral condition can create the body going into trauma creating ‘shortness of breath’ and other respiratory symptoms. In addition poor posture, can also cause breathlessness through physical skeletal restriction or a spasm of the intrinsic muscles, (known as an ‘internal’ spasm), following a trauma, which also restricts the diaphragm and the lung capacity, preventing deep breath.
Sadly – the two together create the beginnings of a respiratory ‘mini-crisis’ and patients – who have been suffering with a dysfunctional skeleton, and have now caught one of the debilitating virus’s around this Winter – (be it FLU or COVID) – find they are now living with both ailments.
Tim King, the lead Consultant at CiONE Harley Street stated, “We at CiONE have long understood that poor posture, and a restricted diaphragm, can create “shallow breathing” and a “restrictive Gait” – BUT it is only recently (‘POST COVID’) that we have realized the EXTENT and DAMAGE of these restrictive symptoms – from the combination of both the viral conditions and the Dysfunctional Skeletal structure.”
